Palomino, in the municipality of Dibulla (La Guajira), is a meeting point between the Palomino River, the rainforest and the Caribbean Sea. It is a destination that combines nature, culture and wellness activities, and has become one of the most important stops for those traveling through the southwest of the department.
How to get there: by the Troncal del Caribe. 1 hour and 40 minutes by road from Santa Marta and 1 hour and 30 minutes from Riohacha.

One of the most popular activities in Palomino is paddling or stand up paddle boarding down the river. During the descent, the landscape combines jungle areas, bird songs and views of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The tour ends at the beach, where the river meets the Caribbean Sea. These experiences must be carried out with local agencies or certified guides, who know the accesses and safety measures, guaranteeing a safe activity and a positive impact on the community.

Palomino’s waves offer adequate conditions for learning to surf. Several local schools offer classes for all levels, providing boards, instructors and sea accompaniment. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or have never surfed before, dare to experiment.
Palomino beach is an ideal place for walking, watching the horizon and doing quiet activities by the sea, such as enjoying the sunset with a refreshing drink.

Near Palomino there are guided trails that allow visitors to learn about the flora and fauna of the tropical dry forest. It is possible to see toucans, herons and other endemic species, as well as learn about medicinal plants used by local communities.
Several agencies and certified guides organize visits to Arhuaco and Kogui ranches and community spaces. These experiences include explanations of their cosmovision, weaving workshops and participation in traditional activities.
Palomino offers workshops in cooking, weaving, dance and spaces to practice yoga or meditation. Therapies such as massages or cocoa ceremonies, oriented to personal care and connection with the environment, are also offered.
This sanctuary, located between Dibulla and Riohacha, is one hour from Palomino. It is home to pink flamingos, herons and other species that inhabit its lagoons and mangroves. The tour is done by canoe with guides from Wayúu communities.
