The experience starts from your accommodation in Riohacha to a nearby Wayúu ranchería (approximately 20 minutes drive) where you will have a cultural immersion.
Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by women of the Wayuu community, who will introduce you to their rich indigenous cosmovision, sharing their traditions, ancestral values and the spiritual meaning of the art of Wayuu weaving.
For approximately 2 hours, you will participate in a hands-on experience of traditional Wayuu weaving, where you will learn basic techniques using natural fibers and vibrant colors, you will have the opportunity to learn how to make backpacks, chinchorros and other traditional items. This activity will allow you to connect with one of the most important cultural expressions of the Wayuu people and to value their profound artisan legacy.
At the end of the weaving workshop, you will have the valuable opportunity to purchase authentic Wayúu handicrafts directly from the artisans who create them. Among the products available you will find hand-woven backpacks, colorful handles, traditional hammocks and a variety of unique pieces that reflect the cultural identity and ancestral talent of these Wayúu women.
Each purchase represents an act of fair trade that contributes directly to the economic well-being of the community, strengthening its autonomy and preserving its cultural heritage. In addition to taking home a genuine souvenir, you will be actively supporting the sustainability of the indigenous artisan tradition.
After living an immersive experience with the Wayuu community, we end the day with the return to Riohacha, scheduled for late morning or around noon. This return journey will allow you to reflect on all that you have learned, taking with you not only unique handicrafts, but also a deep understanding of the Wayúu indigenous culture and its ancestral legacy.
